MySense attended the virtual MedTech Summit 2021 to discuss future proofing the UK healthcare system in a post COVID-19 world

Great Ormond Street Hospital, Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and GSK were just some of the organisations represented at the virtual MedTech Summit 2021 last week as MySense joined them to discuss future proofing the UK healthcare system in a post COVID-19 world.

Powered by National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Surgical MedTech Co-operative, the Northern Health Science Alliance (NHSA) and Empact Ventures, the event was attended by more than 275 people from over 20 countries.

Keynote speaker, Professor Sir John Tooke, a clinician scientist and NHSA board member, opened the event saying:

“The COVID pandemic has presented the health and life sciences sector with many challenges, but also opportunities to develop and implement innovation at speed and scale. Sharing ideas and learning with professionals across the healthcare space is crucial as the country recovers from the pandemic, and the MedTech sector will play an important role within this.”

The aim of the event was to showcase and raise awareness of the UK North’s position as a MedTech cluster for public and private sector organisations of all sizes. Other areas of focus on the day were:

  • building a stronger foundation in a post COVID-19 world to future-proof the UK Healthcare System
  • creating and stimulating new discussions around the challenges, trends and needs in today’s new normal
  • bringing new perspectives and approaches from other industries to the healthcare sector

MySense UK Managing Director, Olivia Harker said:

‘This event brought together leading voices in the UK’s health innovation. MySense is part of the solution to a post pandemic world where data and science can help health and care organisations reduce hospital admissions and GP appointments by providing an extra layer of insight into the wellbeing of patients.’

Speaking at the roundtable discussion hosted by Top Business Tech, Mary Hopkins, Head of Business Systems and Informatics NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership, said:

‘It’s about harnessing technology. We’ve seen now what is possible and we haven’t seen it all. I think personally as we move forward it’s about that continued partnership between academia, research, industry and the health sector. What we’ve done in the last year has been extraordinary and we need to keep that going.’
