In 2021/22 Directors of Social Services reported a significant increase in urgent requests for care. The reasons for this were because of unpaid care arrangements and challenges facing the NHS as well as an increase in the size of care packages due to increased complexity. MySense offers actionable insights to help understand emerging care needs for individuals.

“I feel safer in my own home with MySense as I know the ladies at the office are always monitoring me” — Service user, Stoke-on-Trent

Our insights allow professionals to clearly see levels of functional capability over time. MySense offers the opportunity to have more positive, empathic interactions. By understanding what the norm for an individual at home, MySense can quickly inform carers when there is a change in routine that might indicate a decline in health or wellbeing. Over time this has been shown to offer baseline savings for domiciliary care of between 7% and 15%. Because people with MySense installed see a reduction in hospital admissions of up to 50% care needs tend not to escalate in large and sudden steps, allowing care packages to remain at lower levels for longer.

There is such a reassurance with MySense as you see your loved one is awake and out of bed” — Family Member — Leicestershire County Council

Our app allows individuals to feel supported at home by their loved ones. One family member found that using MySense’s actionable insights allowed their mother to stay at home for 24 months longer than anticipated, allowing greater independence for the individual, significant savings against residential care costs and greater peace of mind for the whole family. Research has found that having MySense at home for one year is roughly equivalent in cost to 10 days in a residential care home.

David Foster reported an average of 13,440 patients a day remained in hospital in 2022, despite no longer meeting the criteria to stay. This is 30% more than the daily average for December 2021. A common barrier to hospital discharge is ensuring the correct care package and support is available for the individual. MySense can support hospital discharge to home, allowing professionals to see what is happening at home in near real time without needing to be in the property. This allows a change of conversation, decision making, and the ability to reclaim travel time for other tasks.

Ingrid Torjesen discussed that almost 1.5 million emergency hospital admissions could have been prevented. Reducing emergency admissions or avoiding them completely can be achieved when using MySense to get ahead of escalating decline in health and acting early to put an intervention in place. In fact, in South Warwickshire it was shown that using MySense to intervene earlier meant every early intervention prevented an average of three urgent interventions.
